Promoting Global Education: Semester in Santander (Spain) Study Abroad Program

By Mónica Rodríguez-Castro, Ph.D. Professor of Spanish Department of Languages, Cultures and Translation This talk focuses on the significant benefits of cultural immersion and enhancement of sociocultural understanding through a study abroad program. Dr. Rodríguez-Castro will specifically talk about her first-hand experiences with the study abroad program in Santander in Northern Spain. While developing a global self-awareness, students were able to acquire a new perspective of Modern Spain through an immersion program that combined a rigorous curriculum with required sociocultural visits. Students acquired a deep understanding of Spain’s history and its unique multilingual and multicultural identity.
